In the neighbourhood of the restaurant you can visit the Carsiana Botanical Garden which displays a karst ground with its typical flora., v katerem je zbrana kraška flora skozi vse letne case.

Grotta Gigante (the Giant Cave) bears its name because it could contain the Saint Peter's Basilica of Rome. It is certainly the most characteristic of the karst phenomena.


Culture

The 16th - century church of S. Michele is renowned for its high bell tower that gave name to the town itself and from which, on a clear day, you can admire all the coast.

In the town of Mali Repen (Rupinpiccolo) you can still see the ruins of a prehistoric fortification which was probably built in prehistoric age.


Relax

Close to the restaurant of Zgonik (Sgonico) you can find the path Riselce which in years was probably carved by an underground river. This is another karst phenomenon that is almost unique in Italy.

In roman age was created in Aquileia, thanks to two roads, a link between the east and the west: the first road was via Postumia and the other via Gemina which ascended from Timavo river onto the Karst plateau leading to Trasatica (Rijeka, Croatia).
